This March, let’s celebrate all French-speaking countries!

The French language is spoken in 29 countries around the world and by at least 450 million people. Every March, the “Mois de la Francophonie” celebrates all French-speaking countries. WIth close ties to Quebec, and a growing community of Mainers from francophone Africa, the Alliance Francaise du Maine is in a unique position to go all out! Join us for one or all cultural events this March as we celebrate Francophonie!

"Samuel de Champlain en Acadie” virtual presentation by French historian Eric Thierry

From 1604 to 1607, Samuel de Champlain traveled through Acadie, first on the island of Sainte-Croix (Maine), then in Port-Royal (Nova Scotia). He explored and mapped the New England coast and developed relationships with indigenous communities. He lived his first North American winter there. His experience in French Acadie helped him greatly to found Quebec a year later, in 1608.

Eric Thierry is a French historian, specialized in New France history and travel literature. He published in 2019 a critical review of the complete writings of Samuel de Champlain, and will be publishing his biography this May.
