Jacaranda is the official 2026 selection of the Fédération des Alliances Française USA. The Federation’s One Book One Federation (OBOF) program supports French literacy throughout the United States and encourages the reading of one book by all AF chapters during a single year.
Reading a book in French might appear a bit daunting but the teacher will accompany you as you tackle it in small manageable pieces and discuss it weekly in class…You will be challenged as you continue to increase your vocabulary and solidify your knowledge of French grammar, and will also gain insight into Francophone cultures.This Intermediate-level class is a great chance to discover Jacaranda, a story of memory and reconstruction, written by Gael Faye, and to join an engaging literary discussion. During our eight meetings, we will read this award-winning novel (Prix Renaudot 2024), explore the language-structure and vocabulary-, and learn about Rwanda, its history, its people and its culture.

L’auteur
Auteur compositeur interprète, Gaël Faye est l’auteur du premier roman phénomène Petit pays (Grasset 2016, prix Goncourt des lycéens) ainsi que de plusieurs albums, de Pili pili sur un croissant au beurre (2013), à Mauve Jacaranda (2022). Il était la Révélation scène de l’année des Victoires de la musique 2018.
