From 1604 to 1607, Samuel de Champlain traveled through Acadie, first on the island of Sainte-Croix (Maine), then in Port-Royal (Nova Scotia). He explored and mapped the New England coast and developed relationships with indigenous communities. He lived his first North American winter there.
